We contacted Emma for private speech therapy. We were keen to start therapy before our son started reception, as we were worried his speech delay would affect his confidence and prevent him settling into his new school environment.
After an initial assessment, Emma put an action plan into place with a full explanation of sessions, fees, expected progress and most importantly reassurance for us as parents that improvements could be achieved.
Emma made her sessions enjoyable and fun, quickly gaining the trust of our four year old with her friendly and upbeat manner. The sessions were play based and engaging, and our son was never left feeling as if he had a problem or was having treatment.
Emma was brilliant at keeping his concentration during sessions especially as he had a poor attention span. This was another aspect that was identified in the sessions and Emma worked on to improve his concentration before he started school.
Once our son started reception, Emma was very flexible and continued his sessions in the school setting. We were given weekly feedback and she provided us with tasks to practice during the week.
We now have a happy, confident 6 year old whose speech has considerably improved and on the same level as his peers. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Emma and the support she provided us.
Emma is a friendly, approachable person who comes with a wealth of knowledge, positivity and enthusiasm!
She took time to get to know each member of staff and our school vision for the future. From there, she identified key pieces of support and training staff needed to both upskill themselves and support the children in their classes effectively.
She has delivered training in staff meetings, carried out individual assessments and observations and provided practical, realistic strategies to be used in the classroom.
Even through the challenging times of Covid, she has continued to support us as a school, planning and creating lots of resource packs ready for us to use when we reopened.
Staff find her really approachable and she has become a member of our team.

We engaged Emma Harrison when our son was nearly 2 years old, as we suspected our son was autistic and he needed support in communicating. Emma helped us and his nursery setting learn various communication strategies to support Jaime in both verbal and non-verbal communication.
These strategies have helped Jaime to learn to communicate through gesture, a Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and spoken words. He was soon asking for food and toys and he is now forming sentences, singing songs clearly and chattering away. He has an ASD diagnosis and will always have issues with communication but he now has a number of ways to communicate when he can't find the words.
I would highly recommend Emma.
